I am Zero,
And the Adults of the Future have asked students at in several schools what they feared most about current events. About 95% of the teens we asked told us they fear another war in the Middle East. Even those who are military bound, fear it.
“We don’t want to waste our lives for this,” said one JROTC member. “Leaving the Middle East is the best thing we can do for these people.”
“They’re a money drain,” said another student, “over 10 billion dollars were spent in Iraq alone. We don’t have any more money to spend on war.”
So why, we ask, why does media the beat war drums. I know as any military nut knows that the Strait of Hormuz is a key shipping route. But if we don’t provoke the Iranians then there is no need for them to block it in the first place.
The catch is oil. The OPEC nations are looking for way to increase the price of it. How can we fix so that our teens don’t have this trouble when they reach adulthood?
The answer is so simple it seems crazy. Energy independence. Every gallon of foreign oil we buy is more money we put into the pockets of OPEC. In many cases this for some makes a good reason to go to war. This process isn’t necessary if we focus on the resources here at home. Think about it we have oil coal and natural gas here, wind and solar are also viable sources of energy.
Ladies and gentlemen of the US government, we say this. Our teens are afraid of a new war. We fear it will become inevitable if we don’t change. For the sake of the future do not go to war. Do not fall for the same trap again.
